The Linn County Board of Supervisors and Linn County Veterans Affairs Commission have named Nicole Kehres (pronounced Karris) as Linn County’s new Veterans Affairs Director, effective, December 14, 2020.
Kehres is a graduate of Grand Canyon University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Management. She also earned an Associate’s degree in Applied Science Aviation Management from The Community College of the Air Force. Kehres has 20+ years of honorable military service in the United States Air Force Reserve. She has deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom throughout her military career. She is a senior non-commissioned officer and has completed various leadership courses. Kehres worked as an Accredited Veterans Service Officer for more than 10 years in the state of Ohio, and most recently worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs in Iowa City.
As Veterans Affairs Director, Kehres will oversee and administer the operation of the Linn County Commission of Veteran Affairs (LCCVA), implement the LCCVA general policy, direct assistance programs for eligible veterans and their dependents to ensure that they apply for and receive all benefits due them, and supervise four staff members.
“I have dedicated the past 11 years to serving veterans and their families. This truly is a passion of mine. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to bringing my knowledge, skills, and experience to advocating for Linn County veterans and their families,” Kehres said.
Kehres succeeds Don Tyne who retired after serving 18 years as Linn County Veterans Affairs Director.
