LINN COUNTY COVID-19 STATUS UPDATE

April 30, 2021

On Monday, April 26, Linn County Public Health Clinic Supervisor Heather Meador and Linn County Board of Supervisor and Board of Health member Stacey Walker talked about the importance of getting vaccinated now in a Facebook Live event. Read the blog from Supervisor Walker on urging residents and people of color to get vaccinated.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information

COVID-19 vaccines are effective at protecting you from getting sick. Based on what we know about COVID-19 vaccines, people who have been fully vaccinated can start to do some things that they had stopped doing because of the pandemic. On April 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated guidance for prevention measures that are needed for fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, depending on whether the activity is indoors or outdoors. To learn more, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for fully vaccinated individuals or view the graphic below:

Choosing Safer Activities for Fully Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Individuals

As of April 5, all Iowans age 16 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccine supply has increased significantly, and anyone that wants a vaccine should get their vaccine now

Some people still have questions about COVID-19 vaccines, including its safety and effectiveness. If you have questions, please contact your healthcare provider or call the Linn County COVID-19 call center at 319-892-6097. Informational sessions about the COVID-19 vaccine were held on April 17, 19 and 24. The recordings are available at https://www.iowacovidinfo.org/recordings.

For help with getting a vaccine:

  • Many local vaccine providers are offering walk-in appointments.
    • Check with the pharmacy or clinic first to ask about walk-in availability.
  • Find a vaccine provider at Vaccines.gov
  • Call 211 or 800-244-7431. Vaccine navigation services are open to anyone 16 years old or older. Translation services are available.

For help with transportation to an appointment:

Linn County will receive approximately 4,100 doses of COVID-19 vaccine the week of May 3. This is less than the full allocation that was offered to Linn County Public Health from the Iowa Department of Public Health. Linn County Public Health did not take the full allotment of vaccine for the coming week due to decreasing demand for vaccine, and due to many local providers receiving large amounts of federally allocated vaccine.
